🦖 Thylacoleo — The Tree Executioner
The Thylacoleo is not just another predator — it is a legendary climber and ambusher that has become a symbol of fear for anyone who dares to enter the Redwoods. Its ability to pounce from trees onto a victim’s back and inflict severe bleeding makes it one of the most dangerous and tactically valuable creatures in ARK.
In ARK, the Thylacoleo is a tree ambusher and combat mount that compensates for its vulnerability in open combat with incredible mobility and powerful bleed.
Unique Mechanics:
🩸 Bleed — the core feature. Its attack applies a powerful bleed effect that deals percentage-based damage from the target’s maximum health. This allows it to kill Titanosaurs and other large creatures, but the bleed does not grant XP if it deals the killing blow.
🌳 Tree and Cliff Climbing — the Thylacoleo can climb vertical surfaces, making it ideal for ambushes and escapes.
🦘 Pounce — capable of leaping from a tree or cliff and pinning flying creatures to the ground (except the Quetzal and Wyvern), other Thylacoleos, and even Therizinosaurus.
🕸️ Silk Gathering — has a 10x bonus to silk gathering, and also gathers fiber and hide with a x2 bonus.
🏊 Fast Swimming — in water, the Thylacoleo swims very fast, making it dangerous for players on aquatic mounts.
⚠️ Explosive Vulnerability — takes +120% damage from instant damage sources (explosions, dinosaur attacks) and +100% from spiked walls.
Taming:
- Knockout with Tranquilizers, Darts, or a Crossbow
- ⚠️ Critical Tip: The Thylacoleo is susceptible to Metal Bola, Bear Traps, and Large Bear Traps. Use a 4×4 trap with stone doorframes, or knock it off a tree and lure it into a trap.
- Narcotics: Be sure to stock up on Narcotics (about 48 for level 150), as torpidity drops quickly.
Spawn Locations:
- The Island — Redwoods (primary habitat), sometimes Desert
- Ragnarok — Redwoods, Desert
- Scorched Earth — Desert
- Valguero — Redwoods
📖 Why It Deserves a Place in the Collection
The Thylacoleo represents a unique «tree assassin» archetype — a creature that turns vertical space into a weapon. Its ability to pounce from trees onto a victim’s back makes it a nightmare for careless players, while its bleed makes it a killer of large creatures, including Titanosaurs. For collectors, it is a creature that combines real paleontological significance (Australia’s largest predator with a unique method of killing) with practical utility — from silk gathering to PvP ambushes on aquatic mounts.
