Thorny Dragon

🦖 Thorny Dragon — The Desert Engineer

The Thorny Dragon is not just another lizard — it is a unique desert all-rounder that combines the roles of a lumberjack, a mobile forge, and a living turret. Its ability to reduce resource weight and shoot spikes makes it indispensable both in the early game and for base defense.

The Thorny Dragon is a medium-sized mount that compensates for its fragility with incredible versatility and useful passive abilities.

Unique Mechanics:
🪵 Resource Weight Reduction — by 50% for wood, fiber, stone, and thatch. This makes it ideal for transporting heavy materials.
🔨 Saddle-Forge — its saddle functions as a forge, allowing you to repair tools and weapons right in the field.
🎯 Spike Shooting — its tail spikes deal 0 damage but quickly increase the target’s torpidity. This makes it a living tranquilizer for knocking out small and medium creatures.
🏠 Living Turret — you can load it with stone to immobilize it and set it to aggressive mode with a long range. This turns it into an automatic defensive turret for your base.
🍖 Efficient Lumberjack — gathers wood very quickly, similar to a Beaver, but does not gather berries.

Taming:

  • Knockout with Tranquilizers, Darts, or a Slingshot (for low levels)
  • Preferred Food: Regular Kibble (Camel Egg), then Raw Mutton or Raw Prime Meat
  • ⚠️ Critical Tip: The Thorny Dragon is NOT susceptible to Bola, but is susceptible to the Net Gun and Bear Traps. Use a stone trap or lure it onto a rock.
  • Trap Tactic: Build a stone trap with a ladder on the outside. Lure the dragon inside, run out through the doorway, and shoot from the ladder.
  • ⚠️ Beware of Spikes: Its spikes inflict torpor on you when hit, so don’t let it get too close.

Spawn Locations:

  • Scorched Earth — Deserts, oases (primary habitat)
  • The Island — Mountains (rare)
  • Ragnarok — Desert
  • Valguero — Desert

📖 Why It Deserves a Place in the Collection

The Thorny Dragon represents a unique «desert engineer» archetype — a creature that is simultaneously a lumberjack, a mobile forge, a resource transport, and a defensive turret. Its ability to reduce the weight of wood and stone makes it indispensable for construction, while its spike shooting opens up unique tactical possibilities — from knocking out creatures at range to defending your base from raiders. For collectors, it is a creature that combines fantasy design (a lizard with porcupine-like spikes) with practical utility at every stage of survival — from gathering wood on Scorched Earth to repairing gear deep in caves.
