🦖 Deinonychus — The Terrible Claw
The Deinonychus is not just another predator — it is a key link in the history of paleontology that changed scientists’ understanding of dinosaurs. It is a fierce, agile, and intelligent hunter that will become the pearl of any collection.
Unique Mechanics:
🩸 Bleed — the core feature. Its attack applies an effect that deals 0.3% of the target’s maximum health per second for 7 seconds, ignoring armor. The effect stacks up to 5 times and works even on bosses — it is the only bleed in the game that affects bosses.
🧗 Wall Climbing — the Deinonychus can climb vertical surfaces by jumping from wall to wall (requires a rider).
🦘 Jumping and Gliding — capable of long jumps and gliding, and takes no fall damage.
🎯 Grappling Large Targets — can latch onto a large creature (including flyers, such as Wyverns) and attack from a safe distance.
👥 Pack Bonus — with 2+ individuals, the alpha gains access to a roar that grants +50% damage, speed, and resistance to the pack for 45 seconds.
Taming:
The Deinonychus cannot be tamed by conventional means — it is too intelligent and loyal to its pack. The only way is to steal a fertilized egg from a nest and raise the baby (like with Wyverns and Rock Drakes).
- Stealing tactic: use a fast flyer (Pteranodon, Argentavis) or a Desmodus. Distract the adults, grab the egg, and leave immediately.
Variants:
- Normal Deinonychus — spawns only on the Valguero map (White Cliffs biome).
📖 Why It Deserves a Place in the Collection
The Deinonychus is a living legend of paleontology and one of the most versatile predators in ARK. Alone it is fragile, but in a pack of 3–5 individuals it turns into a boss-killing machine — its bleed, stacking with other effects, can «cheese» even the Dragon and Megapithecus.
