Kaprosuchus

🦖 Kaprosuchus — The Swamp Jumper

The Kaprosuchus is not just another predator — it is a legendary swamp terror that will become a formidable and tactical addition to any collection. In ARK, it is known as one of the few creatures capable of dragging a rider off their mount and straight into the water, making it unique for both PvP and PvE.

Unique Mechanics:
🦘 Leap & Grab — the core feature. The Kaprosuchus performs a horizontal leap of up to 20 meters, and if it touches a target, it knocks the rider out of the saddle and drags them into the water. This works even on flying mounts, including the Argentavis (PvP).
🏊 Excellent Swimmer — in water, the Kaprosuchus is twice as fast as on land. Its base swimming speed is 220, making it ideal for moving through swamps.
💨 Stamina Drain — its bite drains stamina from the target, preventing the victim from escaping.
🎒 Small Creature Grab — can grab and carry small dinosaurs (Dilo-sized or smaller) in its jaws.
🔫 Shooting from the Saddle — firearms can be used while mounted.

Taming:

  • Knockout with Tranquilizers, Darts, or Arrows
  • «Desperate Taming» Tactic: Let the Kaprosuchus grab you — while you’re in its jaws, punch it or hit it with a club. It won’t be able to escape, and you can knock it out.
  • Trap: Lure it into a stone trap. Remember that they can jump over low walls.

Spawn Locations:

  • The Island — Swamps (primary habitat)
  • Scorched Earth — Rivers, Oases
  • Ragnarok — Swamps
  • Genesis Part 1 — Bog biome

📖 Why It Deserves a Place in the Collection

The Kaprosuchus represents a unique «abductor» archetype — a creature that turns the swamp into a deadly trap for careless survivors. Its ability to drag riders off their mounts makes it the king of PvP ambushes and the best hunter of unsuspecting players. For collectors, it is a creature that combines real paleontological significance (a terrestrial crocodile with an unusual skull) with practical utility — from fast movement through swamps to a unique tactical advantage in combat.
